Scratch resistance test
WebScratch testing has previously been used mainly to characterize the abrasion resistance of coatings. Since PEG simulates the swelling effect of water in wood, this paper shows that the scratch tests on PEG-impregnated green wood can be adopted as a simple technique to understand the scratch resistance in swollen wood and the related mechanisms. WebScratch testing has been widely accepted and used as a way of evaluating interfacial adhesion of coatings/substrate systems. Failure events may be found where the scratch probe produces delamination, debonding, crack, fracture, or breakthrough at the coating/substrate interface.

WebAbrasion and Scratch Resistance: Although there are several test methods for testing abrasion resistance, there is not one universally agreed upon standard. Abrasion resistance is actually a combination of different factors—adhesion, hardness, flexibility and impact resistance. Each test method measures a different combination of these factors.
